Philip Kerr was born in Edinburgh, as a postgraduate he read Law and Philosophy and became interested in German twentieth century history. Following several trips to Germany – and a great deal of walking around the mean streets of Berlin – his first novel, March Violets, was published in 1989 and introduced the world to Bernie Gunther.
Philip Kerr is the author of more than 20 books, including nine Bernie Gunther novels, several standalone thrillers, and the young-adult series Children of the Lamp under the pen name of P.B. Kerr. He lives in London and Cornwall.
