2017 is going to be a bumper year for crime and thrillers. If you haven’t already checked out Ali Land’s stunning, pitch-black Good Me Bad Me, I highly recommend it. It’s hard to think of a darker or more compelling story. And then there’s the thriller everyone is talking about, Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough – see for yourself what the amazing twist is. You’ll definitely never guess. There will also be a new Sharon Bolton, titled Dead Woman Walking. I’m a huge fan of Sharon’s and have read all her books, so I’ll be first in line for this one too.
In April Erin Kelly’s He Said / She Said comes out – I’m lucky to have already read this book and I can tell you it’s utterly fantastic, with a breath-taking twist. I wish I could read it all over again for the first time, but I guess I’ll have to wait for the next one. My good friend Angela Clarke will also be continuing her hugely popular social media murder series with Trust Me – between this and Stav Sherez’s terrifying The Intrusions, just published, you’ll never feel safe online again. I literally put blu-tack over my webcam after reading.
I’m also impatiently waiting for the second in Susie’s Steiner’s detective series, Persons Unknown. I loved the first and can’t wait to catch up with Manon. I’m also looking forward to the new Jane Casey, Let the Dead Speak, which comes out in March – this brilliant series shows no sign of running out of steam. There’s also The Marsh King’s Daughter, a powerful thriller with a simple but compelling premise: what if your father was a kidnapper and murder, and your mother was his victim?
Finally, you should check out the new thriller from Stephenie Meyer, The Chemist. I was very pleasantly surprised to find this is a riveting espionage thriller with plenty of action, and I dashed through it in just a few days.
Claire McGowan is the author of the Paula Maguire series. BLOOD TIDE publishes 23rd March.
